Blair Crichton is the co-founder of KARANA, a plant-based meat company that sources crops that support biodiversity, are farmer-friendly and regeneratively farmed. A Hong Kong native, Blair is a lifelong environmentalist, passionate about making sustainable, healthy, and lasting changes to the global food system.

Inspired by these passions, he was ultimately driven to launch KARANA in 2018, believing there was a gap in the market at the intersection of healthful and delicious plant-based meats. Now, three years later, they’re working with small shareholder farmers in Sri Lanka making ground and minced meat, dumplings and dim sum from jackfruit. KARANA launched in culinary cities of Singapore, Hong Kong and the US in food service, institutions and private label.

Previously, Blair worked at internationally known Impossible foods, as well as New Age Meat and The Good Foods Institute in Silicon Valley. He also spent many years working in finance and was awarded an elite position by HSBC’s International Management Program. In addition to Hong Kong, he’s worked in Shanghai and New York, speaks conversational Cantonese and Mandarin, and holds an MPhil in Chinese Studies from Cambridge, as well as an MBA from Dartmouth Tuck.

Dan Riegler is the co-founder of KARANA, a plant-based meat company that sources crops that support biodiversity, are farmer-friendly and regenerative. An avid devotee of sustainability, Dan has spent the last decade working to develop a deep knowledge of the agriculture, food tech, and financial inclusion sectors.

After starting his career in banking in New York, Dan spent several months cycling across Thailand, ending up in Cambodia in 2010, working with a social enterprise focusing on off-grid solar solutions in rural communities. From there, he continued on to advise various companies in both corporate finance and strategy, across a variety of industries and sectors in the Mekong region, with a strong focus on agriculture-related projects.

In 2018, after connecting with Co-founder, Blair Crichton, the two were inspired by a mutual love of the rising food tech space and the great global need for increased biodiversity to start KARANA in Singapore. Just a few years later, the company has not only developed a line of meat products including ground/minced meat, dumplings and dim sum made from jackfruit but have already launched them in food service, institutions and private label in culinary cities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the US in 2022.

Dan holds a BA in International Studies from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
